Why We Care

Children from poor households, especially girls, are at a significant disadvantage in accessing a quality education. A high percentage of girls drop out of school due to early marriage, early pregnancy or health issues. Families in rural communities and poor households lack funds to provide their children with a quality education. Public primary and secondary schools in Tanzania face significant challenges and lack adequate facilities and infrastructure to offer a quality education:  

• Overcrowded classrooms with teacher to student ratios between 1:45 and 1:80.
• Lack of sufficient desks, teaching materials, textbooks, libraries and laboratories.
• Lack of computers and technology in the delivery of the curriculum.
• Lack of electricity and access to clean drinking water at school.
